I’m a little late in getting this new February Calendar out to you. It’s always tricky to pull and confirm all these appearances together at the end of the month, but this time I also had a few private events during the week, built around the Super Bowl, that occupied my time.

Just last night, I was honored to play in “A Night of Champions,” a fundraising event hosted by Tackle Hunger. It featured, among many others, 4-time Super Bowl Champion 49er Erick Wright. The room was filled with compassionate hearts from here and across the nation whose vision is to create awareness and action, so that all food charities have critical resources to feed those in need at all times. There were inspiring stories and fun items for auction, reflecting a passion for professional sports and Black History Month.

As to the new February Calendar, a few highlights feature a special Valentine’s Day dinner event with violinist-harpist Carlos Reyes and me on February 14 at Park James Hotel in Menlo Park.  Details below.

We’ll also have a first-time appearance of a new version of the Rolando Morales Trio on Thursday, February 26, at Havana in Walnut Creek, which should be a blast. I’ll also be doing a solo House Concert at Harding House in Redwood City on Saturday, February 28, which I haven’t played there since we zoomed during the pandemic. William Andrejko continues his highly successful series of House Concerts, always featuring world-class talent. Tonight, master guitarist/vocalist Rolando Morales will present a tailored, entertaining show in an intimate setting. This is a wonderful way to experience and appreciate the magic that musicians can create in the right environment. Space is limited. Suggested donation: $15-$20. ¡Hola, mi Gente!

I didn’t think I’d be quoting Oprah, but there you are. Simple and to the point.

I was thinking of the passion I’ve conjured at recent events when there were large groups of people into the music all dancing to my rhythms. At those times, when I’m a soloist, I dig deeper into myself to create that big, danceable sound. It takes a tremendous amount of energy to play the rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass, vocals and play string or horn parts all at the same time. But that I do. And when those smiles, dance moves and screams of delight are aimed my way, then I feel the passion returned and find new energy.

But at those times, I also really miss my band! I’m working on getting something going with them again, maybe next month… I’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, here comes your brand new August Calendar. In spite of all the private events I’m doing which do not appear here, I still have a healthy number of public opportunities to catch me, including my new set of shows on some Wednesdays at the Park James Hotel in Menlo Park. ¡Hola, mi Gente!

Time and milestones keep flying by. Valentine’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, Celebrations of Life, Trump found liable for sexual abuse… Hard to keep up with it all!

And now Mother’s Day is already upon us. If you’re like me, you have family spread out across who knows where. Over the years, I haven’t been able to see my familia for quite a while now. But most of us feel our mom’s presence still managing to keep us intact. I know we’ll all finally be able to reunite in June, and I’m very much looking forward to that.

In the meantime, if you’re lucky, you can spend sweet moments with your mom this Sunday, May 14, at La Costanera in Half Moon Bay. Treat her to a Peruvian brunch on the harbor. Another downed tree on another Oakland trail

¡Hola, mi Gente!

I hate tax season.

But you know what helps me get through it? Hiking. I’m not able to get to those trails as often as I used to with this gig schedule of mine, but after all these rains, it’s interesting to see how many uprooted trees have altered so many trails and parks throughout the Bay Area. What I love about the trails after the phenomenon of these atmospheric rivers is the sound and sights of so many heavily flowing streams throughout parklands. It helps one re-set. If you haven’t done it yet, go seek out a good trail. Your spirit will thank you for it.

My gig schedule continues Wednesday with another big corporate event. Then on Friday, April 21, I’m doing a special lunchtime appearance at Pairing Wine Bar and Restaurant in Pleasanton from 12-3 pm. Don’t come at night! I’ll be there at NOON! If you’re in the area and have an hour or two to kill, swing by for a very enjoyable lunch experience with me. I’ve really enjoyed seeing large groups of friends swinging by to my gigs, all enjoying the company, the music, the sights, and the food. Don’t miss out!
