Franklin Institute teaches about the heart.

If you want your heart to be healthy for the rest of your life, follow this prescription:

  1. Get plenty of exercise.
  2. Follow a good diet.
  3. Keep your heart clean and drug-free.

Eat healthy! Use healthy oils on your salads and vegetables - use only one table spoon per serving.

  • Eat mostly whole grains, beans, brown rice, or whole grain pasta. Eat often but tiny portions. Five to ten table spoons every four hours are ideal.
  • Use cooking methods that require little or no fat: boil, broil, bake, roast, poach, steam, saute, stir-fry, don't deep fry anything since it requires too much fat.
  • Get protein from Poultry, Fish, Dry Beans, Eggs or about six Nuts up to three times per day. If you eat more than the size of the palm of your hand - you are eating more than your body can use.
  • If you eat more than your body can digest the rest goes to making you fat.

  • Trim off the fat you can see before cooking meat and poultry. Drain off all fat after browning. Chill soups and stews after cooking so you can remove the hardened fat from the top.
  • Choose an item from the Vegetable group at least 3 to 5 times each day. http://www.fi.edu
