“Visions of Beauty – Fort Myers, Sanibel & Beyond…”

presents compelling images of the mystique of Southwest Florida’s outer islands, the history and charm of old Fort Myers, secluded treasures of Sanibel and Captiva Islands and fascinating scenes from Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, Boca Grande, Cayo Costa, Pine Island and Estero.

The introduction will take place at the January 25, 2010 Sanibel-Captiva Chamber After Hours at Ellington’s restaurant, 1244 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Autographed copies of the book will be available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds contributed to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW). Alan Maltz has a long history of supporting the wildlife.

This is the fourth in a series of large-format Florida coffee table books to be published by Maltz, who has been named “Official Fine Art Photographer for the State of Florida” by VISIT FLORIDA and “Official Wildlife Photographer of Florida” by the Wildlife Foundation of Florida.

His work is found in collections around the world. Sixty of his images are permanently exhibited in the terminal at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers. Aside of being a great photographer Alan also is a great marketer, images by Maltz also adorn the sides of the promotional RV used to market Sanibel and Captiva through the Chamber of Commerce.

In describing his art, Maltz says, “I seldom use filters to achieve effects; Instead, I follow the light.” His approach results in images that are translucent, engaging and reflective of the special qualities of his subjects.

Alan Maltz was a passionate travel prior to settling down in Florida. He recalls: "One day, my friend, his wife and I took a road trip to the Keys to visit a friend of his.  When we arrived, I was a déjà vu experience.  This person’s house had an unexplainable effect on me.  As it turned out, three months later I wound up purchasing the house and I have been there ever since (32 years).  That is the Florida end.  Nature and wildlife are my passions.  Put all three elements together and you get a passionate nature and wildlife photographer from Florida."

Alan Maltz was recently honored with the inaugural VISION Award from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' Wildlife Care Center (WCC). The award was created especially for Maltz to acknowledge his contributions to the center and his vision as a photographer and artist.

Maltz received the award at the WCC's 40th Anniversary Gala--the organization's largest and most important fund-raising event of the year. More than 200 attending guests enjoyed the 13 Maltz canvases displayed in the ballroom, including an impressive mural measuring 7 1/2 x 5 feet.
