KC Haute Couture

Karlsson Concept thinks about Haute Couture in 3D. Their truly modern "Fire" line is designed as sculptured fashion inspired by Miyamoto Musashi's "Book of Fire".

Musashi said “crossing at a ford” occurs often in a man’s lifetime. Crossing at a ford in our life means overcoming a critical moment. We often face “crossing at a ford”; however, we are unable to recognize the crucial moment.

A master of the martial arts like Musashi can detect this moment. The Book of Five Rings summarizes “crossing at a ford” in two principles: know the times, meaning to know the enemy’s disposition; and “tread down the sword,” meaning to tread with body, tread with the spirit and to cut with a long sword, in other words, to preempt the action of your enemy.

Many of Karlsson Concepts works are born on a torso working directly with fabrics. They know the body and know when and where to cut the fabric to arrive at the desired results. They are free spirited and are focused on the result. They often use tried and proven techniques and just like Musashi - they often abandon tried and proven techniques. They are focused on the results and will cut and sew, and sculpt - they will do whatever it takes to create their vision.

As in most disciplines in martial arts, Musashi notes that the movement of the sword after the cut is made must not be superfluous; instead of quickly returning to a stance or position, one should allow the sword to come to the end of its path from the force used.

The jacket "Fire" is sewn of heavy crepe silk and Solstiss lace and custom bead work using exquisite Austrian glass. The result they desire was to have the power and wildness of fire, yet create a jacket that still is beautiful and excudes harmony.
