"A New Era of Jazz "

On December 1, 2007 the Jazz Heritage Center and Yoshi's San Francisco opened their doors to the Jazz Community. The day was celebrated by the neighbors and visitors from all over the country who came to join and celebrate the New Era of Jazz. Placed in the historic Fillmore district which holds a proud history of music and community celebration it has a truly metropolitan feeling. The architecture is modern yet built with the quality reminiscent of shopping and entertainment in Melrose Avenue, Santa Monica Boulevard, Greenwich Village, Kurfuerstendamm, Maximilian Strasse, Rue de St. Honore, Kabukicho - yet uniquely San Francisco.

The Jazz Heritage Center is right in the Fillmore District. This location is conveniently placed in a neighborhood bursting with music history. The shops range from exotic cool clothing, restaurants, art galleries and music clubs. It is representative of San Francisco's multi-kulti heritage. In the Fillmore Blacks, Japanese, Whites, Latinos, Russians and Jews have lived together in harmony since early this century. You may enjoy the famed Lewis Watts' new book entitled Harlem of the West: The San Francisco Fillmore Jazz Era. You may still remember the famous The Fillmore operated by legendary Bill Graham, who built on this tradition. Now Peter Fitzsimmons has stepped into these foot steps to capture and entice the New Era of Jazz.

The Jazz Heritage Center operates the Lush Life Gallery which offers memorabilia, paintings, sculptures, and amazing photographs that recapture the glorious Jazz History of the Fillmore. Jazz is so fun, glam, and popular these days. A new restaurant called 1300 serves Southern Cuisine which was favored by many of the Jazz Legends. When you taste the food and experience the impeccable service you will become an instant regular. Great and delicious Food combined with a fun and lively atmosphere right where what just may be the heart of this New Era of Jazz. When you will leave the 1300 restaurant you will exclaim: "That's what I'm talking about." The hearty Southern Cuisine is a nice compliment to Yoshi's Japanese food. The sushi tastes completely fresh and the teriyaki chicken is totemo oishi. You can also find Mexican, African and Jewish delicacies nearby. San Francisco has a long standing tradition of attracting, well - everyone. The Fillmore District is the new and the old tourist destination, a long-standing epicenter of fun, music, food, and harmonious sharing - a meeting of rich and poor brought together by music and art. When you are in the Bay Area this is a fun place to spend relaxing or shopping by day and dining and enjoying a show in the evenings. If you are from out of town - we recommend you stay at the wonderful Miyako Hotel only three blocks over at the Fillmore Annex and make your holiday complete.
