Thank you for your Support!
Introduction
The UC Jazz Club was founded in 2006 by the students of UC Jazz Ensembles, its faculty and volunteers. Our goal is to share our fine tradition of Jazz with our members and the community at large.
UC Jazz Ensembles have been teaching students since 1966. We hope our members will enjoy our monthly newsletter, our performances and most importantly we hope you will support our effort to expand our popular program.
We invite donors and volunteers to continue to support our growing program and to join us now.
The UC Jazz Club offers several unique sponsorship opportunities which will support us in our goal to remodel the UC Jazz studios.
With your support we will also maintain and grow our current resources in the studios. This includes the purchase and maintenance of our equipment, expanding and renovating our practice areas, adding to our jazz library and ultimately making recordings of our big band and ensembles live performances.
Our goal is to uphold the UC Jazz tradition which has enchanted the world. We have taught students how to carry on this wonderful musical tradition with great success. Jazz has become mainstream and is becoming increasingly popular.
Please contact Ted Moore, director of UC Jazz Ensembles to learn about the program. You may also contact RioVida Networks for assistance to set up interviews with the faculty, students and fund-raising committee.

UC Jazz Club Newsletter.
Our volunteers will continue to bring you the UC Jazz Newsletter and we are happy to report that our team of volunteers has increased over the past year. This will allow us to update the newsletter with new features twice a month next year. So check back often to learn about our new features, special concerts, and interviews.
Most importantly - as a growing Jazz loving community - let's continue to support valuable music programs. Let's continue to visit the great shows that are available to us in the Bay Area - particularly the ones that are tied to the all important community fundraisers. The UC Jazz Club is starting to build a reputation of becoming a strong and benevolent force in the SF Bay Area.

UC Jazz Performers
Jazz is considered a true American Art form. In order to both enjoy new talent we have to support the students. In order to assist audiences to continue to appreciate jazz we have to reach out to youngsters that love jazz. Let's continue to keep this program alive.

Frank Martin Watch
Narada Michael Walden is now promoting his historic Victory CD on CD Universe The CD features Frank Martin on Keyboards; Follow Link for these classic hits.
From intense high energy fusion to Indian influenced improvisations, from dense and heavy darkish atmospheres to lyrical moods, Claude Pauly's new CD featuring bassist Kai Eckhardt (John McLaughlin, Garaj Mahal) , drummer Alan Hertz (Scott Henderson, Garaj Mahal) and keyboardist Frank Martin ( John McLaughlin, Richard Bona, Sting...) is a high density experience of the different landscapes of electric jazz fusion guitar playing and writing. But this isn't just another guitar album. This CD is drenched in what it's actually all about....music!. Fans of Allan Holdsworth, John McLaughlin, Scott Henderson, Greg Howe will absolutely dig this kick butt album . Much recommended.
Claude Pauly (guitars); Kai Eckhardt (bass); Alan Hertz (drums); Frank Martin (piano, keyboards). Download Sampler
Dann Zinn Watch
Dann Zinn appears on the popular Mo'fone Sling Shot CD. Ian Patterson writes in All About Jazz:
"he one non-original is a version of Led Zeppelin's Caribbean-infused "Fool in the Rain"; baritone and alto join together in the riff, while tenor saxophonist Dann Zinn's plays the melody. It's a completely faithful rendition until the tune transforms into a carnival-esque stomp, at which point squeals, honks and distorted tenor turn the song on its head. Beautiful unison lines lead back to the original riff and melody, closing one of the most enjoyable Zeppelin covers on record. "Kattyampuws" and the very lovely "Bee," both compositions by Steinkoler, round things off. "Kattywampus" recalls "Hit the Road Jack," the Percy Mayfield song popularized by Ray Charles, while "Bee" pits clarinet over bass clarinet to create a velvety richness, Steinkoler's brushes falling like soft rain on this meditative ballad. Who'd have thought such groove-based, funky, swinging jazz with great solos could be produced... on two saxophones and drums?"
Glenn Richman Watch
Recently named NEA Jazz Master, Bobby Hutcherson has an extensive discography, though opportunities to record as a leader have slowed a good bit since the dawn of the 21st century. Hutcherson is still very much an important vibraphonist, as this excellent tribute to John Coltrane reveals. All nine songs were either written or recorded by Coltrane, though Hutcherson's choice of instrumentation deliberately moves away from the jazz master's typical groups. Guitarist Anthony Wilson takes the place of a second reed instrument while pianist Joe Gilman and drummer Eddie Marshall both have a lighter style of playing in comparison to McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones respectively. Bassist Glenn Richman is not as well known as his fellow musicians on the date, though he establishes himself as a solid player from the onset. Hutcherson, who, despite being active in jazz for the last seven years of Coltrane's life, never recorded with him, offers interpretations that provide a striking contrast to those heard on the late saxophonist's albums.
