Carol Suveda

Carol Suveda has been the Alumni Relations and Events Manager for Student Musical Activities at UC Berkeley since April 2000. She assists UC Jazz Ensembles, UC Choral Ensembles and the Cal Band with fundraising, public relations, publicity, alumni relations and other administrative support. At Cal, Carol also serves on the Executive Committee of the Fund Raising Council, the Cal Summerfest Committee and was recently elected to the Coordinating Committee of the Berkeley Staff Assembly.

Born and raised in Alameda County, Carol has been involved in music all her life, starting with singing at synagogue and Jewish summer camp. In third grade she learned violin, but switched to flute in fourth grade and played it through high school in Piedmont. Carol studied jazz vocals with Richard Kalman at Albany Adult School for two years in the mid 90's and has been a member of the UC Alumni Chorus since 2000. This past academic year Carol joined Tangy Voce, a small choir of Cal staff which meets on Tuesdays at noon in the Tang Center on campus. Recently performance, Carol sang "Peel Me a Grape" a tune by Dave Frishberg made famous by Diana Krall a few years ago. She has a large collection of music with a heavy focus on jazz and singer songwriters. Carol recently bought a used purple saxophone from a high school student going to college, and hopes to learn how to play it soon!

Carol has a BA from UC Berkeley in Social Welfare and a Masters of Nonprofit Administration from the University of San Francisco. She has been a development professional since 1984 and has worked for organizations including the Leukemia Society, Mt. Zion Hospital and Medical Center, the Jewish Federation of the East Bay, the American Cancer Society and Berkeley Symphony Orchestra.

Carol lives in North Berkeley with her daughter Orly who will be starting Berkeley High School in the fall. In her free time, Carol enjoys scrabble, attending concerts, plays, films, dance performances, and loves going to museums, fairs and festivals and on any kind of getaway from day trips to travel to foreign countries – this year Peru!
